The blueprints for this Gundam were designed fifteen years ago by the same 5 scientists that later build the other Gundams. Theoretically this mobile suit  is the ancestor of all the Gundams.
The Wing Zero was designed for combat in space, while the later models were build for use on Earth. Like the Wing Gundam it can transform into a "bird mode". It is armed with a twin buster rifle more than twice as powerful as that of the Wing Gundam.
Wing Zero is also equipped with a devise that allows it directly to tap into the pilots brain, which decreases the pilots reaction time and results in an immense increase in speed and agility. But because of the potential dangers this kind of brain manipulation could result in, the scientists never actually build the Wing Zero model.
Un-intentionally or intentionally however the blueprints remained in the Winner family's main computer, where they were found 15 years later by Quatre R. Winner.
Quatre build the Gundam not knowing of it's dangers after his Sandrock Gundam was destroyed on Earth.
